FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

BALTIMORE, MD. (Thursday, March 30, 2023) - Today, Mayor Brandon M. Scott released the following statement in response to the release of an academic evaluation conducted by Daniel W. Webster, ScD, MPH on Safe Streets.

"I am pleased to announce that Safe Streets, Baltimore's flagship community violence intervention program, has achieved remarkable results in reducing homicides by 32 percent and nonfatal shootings by 23 percent annually since 2007. Dr. Daniel W. Webster conducted an academic evaluation of the program.

Our strategic partners, Catholic Charities and LifeBridge Health Center for Hope, work with us to provide victim services, hospital-based violence intervention, mental health support, and life coaching services. We will continue to prioritize these services and invest in violence prevention and intervention efforts to create a safer Baltimore.

I am proud of the Safe Streets staff members who work tirelessly to mediate conflicts and promote peace in our communities. Together, we are committed to delivering improved public safety outcomes for all Baltimoreans.
