FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

BALTIMORE, MD (Tuesday, November 21, 2023) – Today, Mayor Brandon M. Scott released the following statement in response to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit's ruling to undo portions of Maryland’s Firearm Safety Act of 2013.

"I am incredibly frustrated and disappointed by today’s U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit ruling. In a time where the proliferation of firearms is threatening the safety of our communities, we should be more, not less, careful about who has access to these tools of violence. The decision to remove common sense background checks and firearm safety trainings allows individuals who should not be able to purchase these weapons to do so and threatens the safety of our communities."
